In a significant milestone, veteran trader and educator Simon Jousef announced the successful resolution of a four-year-long civil case with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in 2020. The case, originating from a technical oversight on Jousef's part, concluded with an agreement that allowed him to continue his trading and educational activities.
The issue stemmed from Jousef's failure to update his corporation name on his Commodity Trading Advisor (CTA) license, a document he had held since 2007. The CFTC's inquiry expanded to scrutinize the language on his old website and the absence of proper disclosures, focusing specifically on the period between July 2014 and December 2015.
During this specific timeframe, Jousef operated under the brand name "Global Trade Room" and involved trading partners in his services, a unique occurrence in his 18-year career. Decisions made by these partners complicated interactions with the CFTC, although they did not question Jousef's trading methods or services provided to his students. Notably, Jousef did not accept investments from others, a common trigger for CFTC investigations. His other venture, The Trader Institute, established in 2016, remained unaffected and continued to thrive.
Reflecting on the investigation, Simon Jousef admitted to mishandling initial communications with the CFTC, resulting in legal proceedings. Despite his belief that the matter was not significant, the lack of timely response led to escalation. In 2020, he chose to settle with the CFTC, allowing him to close this chapter and move forward.
"I acted in good faith, but I acknowledge my errors and have learned valuable lessons. My commitment to providing exceptional services to traders, helping them achieve profitability, remains steadfast," said Jousef.
This resolution underscores the importance of regulatory oversight. Simon Jousef expressed respect for the CFTC's role, acknowledging the need for such bodies to protect the public from unscrupulous practices.
For current or potential students with questions about this case, Jousef's sales team and support staff are available to assist.
